About Us

Kris's Kitchen was birthed out of love. There is a serious void in the world and the one thing that is sure to bring people together is a home cooked hearty meal. "As a foster child, there weren't always many opportunities to be on the receiving end of love. I began to notice that good food was always one of the ways to surely bring family together."
My love of cooking really began at the tender age of 9 after I was adopted into the Carter family. My mother kept me in the kitchen. I would watch Paula Deen episodes on the Food Network Channel and various other cooking shows but the one who really cultivated me and taught me to hone my skill was my 83 year old mother (God rest her soul).
Kris's Kitchen takes the guesswork out of struggling to make time to be with family and have a healthy dinner. It is a mobile meal service for families as well as a catering service for events.
Veteran owned and operated, Kris's Kitchen strives to use former military experience to introduce new and exciting flavors to different communities. I had the pleasure of traveling with my husband on orders to his duty station in Korea. It was such a beautiful experience to watch how their cooks used different methods to make some of the most flavorful creations. I want my community to experience that. We lived in Northern Virginia for 11 years. While there, we got to experience so many different styles of cooking and the way in which meal items were oddly placed (in my opinion at the time) but came together beautifully. During that time I was teaching in Southeast DC and would bring meals to my classroom for my students to experience. My husband would always brag to everyone on the military base, in his unit and beyond about my cooking. He would always say "Kris's Kitchen, please believe me" after people would inquire about the dishes that I made. People began to ask to pay me to prepare meals for their families and events.
We started Kris's Kitchen because we realized the need for it within our community. In these unprecedented times over 85% of American families are so busy doing life that they are unable to sit at the table together and enjoy a healthy, home cooked meal. The dinner table has lost its essential essence over time. This is a concern because contrary to popular belief, dinner time is not just for eating. Most of our important and valuable conversations happen at the dinner table. Crucial decisions about our country and the laws within it were made at the dinner table. The dinner table is where we get the life lessons, where we tell each other about our day. Our likes and dislikes. For many families it is the only time they get to talk to their teen and not have to compete with a screen.
There is the argument that a restaurant can provide this service and you would be correct, they can but at what expense? You're likely to spend upwards of 60 dollars plus a tip for a family of four at a mediocre restaurant. A meal from Kris's Kitchen costs significantly less than that and your meal is delivered to you. That means no driving, looking for parking or strangers walking by as you eat. Enjoy your meal in the comfort of your own home! As an added measure, it is prepared with love and by a chef with over 25 years of experience.
